End of an Era in Charlotte
Wilfried Zaha has officially played his final game for Charlotte FC, with the club and the Ivory Coast international confirming his departure on Sunday morning. The forward spent the past season and a half on loan from Turkish giants Galatasaray, leaving a lasting impression on the Queen City.
Zaha originally joined Charlotte FC in January 2025, with his loan extended through June 30 of this year. With the 2026 FIFA World Cup pause approaching, Charlotte will not play again until July 22 against Atlanta United, making this the natural moment for farewell.
A Heartfelt Goodbye
“The moment has come to say goodbye, but I just wanted to thank Charlotte, the city, for welcoming me and my family with open arms and allowing me to fall in love with the game again,” Zaha wrote on Instagram. “There have been many highs and many lows, but it is about the journey in the end, and I loved every minute. I am going to miss you all dearly, but keep our relationships in my heart forever.”
The former Crystal Palace and Manchester United star contributed an impressive 13 goals and 14 assists in 44 regular-season appearances for Charlotte. He occupied a Designated Player roster spot and was instrumental in helping the club qualify for the Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs.
What Comes Next for Zaha
At the World Cup break, Charlotte sit sixth in the Eastern Conference with 21 points. Pep Biel and Liel Abada remain as the club’s Designated Players. Zaha’s next destination remains unclear, though his pedigree ensures no shortage of suitors. His record in the Premier League, where he is a bonafide legend at Crystal Palace, makes a European return a distinct possibility.
“Everyone at Charlotte FC thanks Wilfried for his contributions to the club, and we all wish him and his family continued success throughout the rest of his career,” said Charlotte general manager Zoran Krneta. Zaha leaves behind a legacy of flair, direct running, and memorable moments that endeared him to the Charlotte faithful.
