Pintilii’s Next Chapter
Mihai Pintilii, the 41-year-old Romanian football veteran, is attracting concrete interest from CS Tunari as he contemplates the next step in his career following his departure from FCSB. The Liga 2 side has confirmed their interest in the experienced midfielder, who is currently a free agent after spending six years in various coaching and playing roles at the Romanian giants.
Pintilii, who retired from professional playing in early 2020, has remained deeply involved in football through his work on the coaching staff at FCSB. However, with his contract now expired and the club undergoing changes, the door has opened for a potential move to CS Tunari, a club that has expressed a strong desire to bring him on board.
Coaching Ambitions Drive the Move
Pintilii currently holds his UEFA A License and is just one step away from qualifying as a fully accredited head coach. This career progression is clearly at the forefront of his thinking as he evaluates his options. While he has been tempted to continue working alongside Elias Charalambous, the opportunity to step into a more prominent coaching role with CS Tunari represents a natural progression in his development.
“Momentarily, we have only thought about Mihai Pintilii. It is not something concrete yet. We had a larger list of coaches, and he is on it,” a CS Tunari official stated. “More than likely we will be in Liga 3, so you can imagine, I do not think Mihai Pintilii will come, I think. However, being near Bucharest with a stadium and the conditions we have, it would be tempting for a coach like Pintilii.”
Uncertain League Status Complicates Talks
The situation is complicated by CS Tunari’s uncertain league status. The club was relegated to Liga 3 but is awaiting the licensing process for Liga 2, hoping to return to the second division if another club forfeits its place. Pintilii’s decision may well hinge on whether CS Tunari can secure a place in Liga 2, as the 41-year-old is unlikely to drop down to the third tier at this stage of his coaching development.
Journalist Emanuel Rosu, who first reported the interest, noted that Pintilii would bring considerable experience and tactical knowledge to any club he joins. His six years at FCSB exposed him to high-pressure environments, European competition, and the demands of managing top-level players in Romania’s top flight.
What Pintilii Would Bring
Throughout his playing career, Pintilii was known for his intelligence, passing range, and leadership qualities in midfield. As a coach, he has demonstrated similar attributes, with a reputation for meticulous preparation and strong man-management skills. CS Tunari believes that his presence could be transformative for a club looking to establish itself at a higher level of Romanian football.
For Pintilii, the decision represents a crossroads. The security and familiarity of remaining in Bucharest’s orbit versus the challenge of building something from a lower base. His next move will say much about his ambitions as he transitions from a respected playing career into the next phase of his football journey.
