Spurs Make Bold Statement
Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of completing a major transfer coup, with negotiations for Manchester City winger Savinho entering their final stages. The North London club, who narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of the 2025-26 Premier League season, are prepared to invest €70 million to bring the Brazilian to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, according to sources close to the deal.
The proposed signing would represent a significant statement of intent from the Spurs hierarchy, who have already been the most active Premier League club in the summer window. A deal of this magnitude signals that Tottenham are not content merely to survive but are aiming to re-establish themselves among England’s top sides.
Savinho’s Journey to the Premier League
Born in Brazil, Savinho began his career at Atletico Mineiro before making the move to Europe with Troyes in 2022. The winger’s development has taken him through several of the City Football Group’s clubs, including loan spells at PSV Eindhoven and Girona, before he joined Manchester City permanently.
During his time at the Etihad, Savinho has made 84 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing 13 assists. The 2024-25 season saw him contribute a goal and eight assists, although his playing time was more limited in the recently concluded campaign, with 24 league appearances yielding one goal and one assist. Despite the reduced output, his dribbling ability, pace, and versatility across the front line have attracted interest from several top European clubs.
Tottenham’s Summer Overhaul
Tottenham have already completed two significant signings this summer. Left-back Andrew Robertson arrived on a free transfer after leaving Liverpool, bringing Champions League and Premier League-winning experience to a defence that badly needed leadership. A second signing has also been finalised as part of the squad rebuild under the new technical direction.
The addition of Savinho would give Spurs a genuine threat in wide areas and reduce the burden on the club’s existing attacking players. His ability to play on either flank or as a secondary striker offers tactical flexibility that was sorely lacking last season, when Tottenham’s attacking play often became predictable and easy to defend against.
A Club Rebuilding
Savinho was also a target for Tottenham in the previous summer window, with the player reportedly open to the move at the time. However, Manchester City decided to keep him, and the Brazilian went on to play a role — albeit a diminishing one — in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Now, with City open to selling and Spurs ready to meet the valuation, the pieces are falling into place.
The €70 million fee would make Savinho one of the most expensive signings in Tottenham’s history, underlining the club’s determination to compete at a higher level. For the player, it represents an opportunity to become a central figure at a club that is rebuilding with ambition, rather than a squad player at a super-club with endless depth.
If the deal is completed, it will be the third major signing of Tottenham’s summer window — and the strongest signal yet that the club intends to put last season’s struggles firmly behind them.
