Hermannstadt Sheds Seven Players Following Relegation from Romanian Liga 1

Rebuilding After Relegation

Hermannstadt has parted ways with seven players following their relegation from the Romanian Superliga. The Sibiu-based club, which dropped to Liga 2 after losing the relegation play-off, has been forced into a significant squad overhaul as it prepares for life in the second division.

The relegation was confirmed after a dramatic play-off against Voluntari. Hermannstadt won the home leg 3-2 under manager Dorinel Munteanu, but the return match in Ilfov ended in a comprehensive 3-0 defeat, sealing their fate.

Departures Confirmed

Dennis Politic, a player who had been brought in during the winter transfer window, is among the most notable departures. The Romanian attacker, who arrived from FC Hermannstadt made just six appearances in the Superliga following his winter move, and his departure represents a significant financial loss for the club.

Politic’s situation was a source of tension before the end of the season. I do not know, I have no idea what he is doing, Munteanu said publicly. He claims to be injured, I do not know. He is still our player, but he says he is injured because supposedly he cannot play.

Alongside Politic, Hermannstadt will also lose Vlad Mutiu, Saeed Issah, Tiberiu Capusa, Sergiu Bus, Aurelian Chitu, and Aviel Zargary. All seven players were at the end of their contracts and will leave on free transfers.

Players Find New Clubs

Aurelian Chitu has already secured his future, signing with Poli Timisoara, a club that has promoted to Liga 2 and is pushing for access to the top division. According to local sources, the other players still under contract with Hermannstadt will most likely discuss amicable termination agreements.

The managerial situation remains in flux as well. Munteanu has been officially presented as the new coach of CSM Resita, another Liga 2 side. Club president Gheorghe Buta has also left the club.

For Hermannstadt, the challenge is now to rebuild quickly with a more sustainable squad that can compete for promotion back to the Superliga. The club’s scouting network will need to identify replacements who can operate effectively at the Liga 2 level while keeping the club’s finances in check following the revenue loss of top-flight relegation.
